The first summer-like storm hit NYC last night with hail and pummeling rain.  Naturally there was a great lightning show. The strikes that you see here in my 6/9/11 video are some of the best ones of the night and were captured over nearly an hour and a half. They include a great Empire State Building hit and one that completely lit up the sky — causing the Empire State Building to almost look like an Xray — and which caused one passerby to scream in fear (which cracked me up!). Another strike appears behind the Empire State Building, but because of the way the building was lit up, it almost looks like the lightning bolt is shooting through the building.

If you want to see the Empire State Building lightning strike in slow motion, you can find it here.

If you like my photos, many of them can be found for sale on posters, cards, T-shirts, etc at my NYCisMyMuse Zazzle store here
