I posted pictures of the Empire State Building’s surprise light show last night. Here are a couple of videos. The first one shows it in competition with the changing lights of Bank of America Tower’s spire. The second is a close-up of the top of the Empire State Building flashing the colors of the rainbow. The videos have been sped up by 2x for the sake of brevity.
The Empire State Building gave its brightly lit neighbors with colorful flashing spires — Bank of America Tower and 4 Times Square — a run for their money tonight, changing colors from red to blue to green to yellow, to hot pink, then it put on a little show where the the colors of the rainbow flashed. I saw it on half of the south side of the building, but it looks like it was on the west side (and I’m guessing on half of the north side as well). Perhaps this was a light test and is a taste of things to come on the skyline? Guess we’ll all have to stay tuned. Here are some pictures (video hopefully coming later!):

Earth Hour, the annual worldwide event created by the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) that takes a stand against climate change, occurred from 8:30-9:30pm on Saturday March 31. Here’s my film of the midtown Manhattan skyline filmed from the Union Square area.
First the lights to 30 Rockefeller Center went off (except for the GE sign) just after the video starts. Around 45 seconds later the Empire State Building went dark. Next you’ll see the Chrysler Building lights start to go off at around the 1:04 mark in the video and go dark several seconds later (although this actually happened around 2 1/2 minutes after the Empire State Building, and that footage was removed because you would have been seriously bored and probably long gone!).
