Empire State Building in Orange & Yellow for the 25th Anniversary of the James Beard Foundation and the 22nd Annual James Beard Awards
I posted pictures of the Empire State Building’s surprise light show last night. Here are a couple of videos. The first one shows it in competition with the changing lights of Bank of America Tower’s spire. The second is a close-up of the top of the Empire State Building flashing the colors of the rainbow. The videos have been sped up by 2x for the sake of brevity.
The Empire State Building gave its brightly lit neighbors with colorful flashing spires — Bank of America Tower and 4 Times Square — a run for their money tonight, changing colors from red to blue to green to yellow, to hot pink, then it put on a little show where the the colors of the rainbow flashed. I saw it on half of the south side of the building, but it looks like it was on the west side (and I’m guessing on half of the north side as well). Perhaps this was a light test and is a taste of things to come on the skyline? Guess we’ll all have to stay tuned. Here are some pictures (video hopefully coming later!):

Empire State Building gone to the dogs in Purple and Yellow for the 136th Annual Westminster Dog Show
Tonight the Empire State Building is resplendent in Blue and Yellow, celebrating the European Union and E.U. Day (perhaps a big ironic given the huge financial bailout and unrest in Greece, and mounting financial turmoil in other EU nations Portugal and Spain). The first picture was taken just after sunset. The middle one just below it was taken a few minutes later, and the last one was taken about five minutes later as it got even darker. The lights will be Blue/Yellow/Blue again tomorrow evening.
